Ann is ruining my life, suggesting a Contact AU. This is probably my favorite movie/book in the entire world. I have a lot of feelings so I’m going to inflict them on all of you, in two parts because I have work/school/sleep and this is long. Part 2 will have more CS.

Puerto Rico is hot, even at night. She loves it though, it’s so different than the seasons she grew up with in Minnesota with Aunt Ingrid. The insects are different, but the night still sings to her and keeps her company on the long shifts with the scope.

He’s been keeping her company too.

Killian Jones, roaming philosopher-slash-adventurer-slash-theist, had taken an interest in Emma’s work with SETI, taking a trip out to interview her and her colleagues and gain some perspective on the question of intelligent life in the universe. They’ve butted heads more often than not, but Emma’s found herself appreciating his perspective and his questions.

He doesn’t ever try to tell her she’s wrong or to preach to her.

He just wants to understand, just like she does.

They’re just taking different paths.
