Since 2012, I’ve written a lot of stuff for this fandom. And I mean, a lot. I’ve written more for this fandom than any of my other fandoms ever. (This is not hyperbole. My ff.net profile goes all the way back to the days of Sports Night, for crying out loud, and most of the fic up there is OUAT fic.) My bread and butter is mostly Charming Family with some Captain Swan sprinkled in. This tendency of mine culminated last summer in what is my favorite piece I’ve written for this fandom: Wednesday’s Child.
Because really, who doesn’t want to write about this little munchkin
and this little munchkin
being thrust into the care of these loving parents?
Yes, a magical accident while trying to make Emma’s parents an anniversary gift leaves Emma and Killian as terrified and confused ten-year-olds who are left in Snowing’s care while Regina and Zelena work in the background to figure out how to turn them back to adults.
Snow and Charming get to know their baby as a little girl, Henry and baby Neal get a couple of new playmates, and
two lonely children learn how it feels to be loved.
This story was really fun to write and I hope it is as fun to read. You can find Wednesday’s Child on ff.net here and on Tumblr here.
Notes: I actually love this chapter a lot for all of the wrong reasons, mainly because I’m kinda turning this entire selkie thing on its head. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. Please note there is a lot of discussion on the icky side of the male selkie myths which I find problematic and have decided to voice here. So, yeah, there’s talk of dubious consent and sexual harassment but nothing overtly triggering in my opinion. A special thank you to @aerica13 who is my amazing beta and a godsend because I’m shit at editing my own work. Also a thank you to @shireness-says and @katie-dub for being my cheerleaders. I really appreciate you guys. Also a special thanks to @cssns and @drowned-dreamer for making my CS Supernatural Summer pretty epic. Kerry did an amazing job making me art for this story. Check it out below! It’s absolutely gorgeous and unfortunately the kiss in this chapter isn’t as romantic but we’ll get there. Summary: All of her life, Emma Swan has wanted to know who her parents were and why they abandoned her outside a police station in Menemsha, Martha’s Vineyard. When the trail runs cold, she has a break down and inadvertently summons a selkie named Killian. Emma isn’t looking for love, she’s looking for answers but unfortunately for her, he cannot return to the ocean until she feels happiness. Word Count: 4,600+ Chapters:Prologue | One | Two | Three | Four | Five | Six | Epilogue Rating: T+
Emma hated the Vineyard.
Though she wasn’t a people person, she preferred the anonymity that came with living in the city and the phenomena of being alone without actually being alone. It was easy to lose yourself in the hustle of the city, to turn your brain off and just walk aimlessly until you found something to distract you from the world for a while.
There was no word to describe Menemsha except empty and she could feel that emptiness echoing inside her. While she had found some sort of companionship in Ruby whenever she went to the diner, it never went beyond casual conversation. Emma wasn’t necessarily looking for friendship – she was a loner by nature – but she found she couldn’t lose herself in Menemsha the same way she lost herself in Tallahassee, Boston and Portland. The silence of the village amplified the violence of her thoughts and her mind had become a torturous reel of her darkest moments. She couldn’t sleep with the echoes of the loud piercing shriek of a baby she would never hold, the compassionless voices of police officers reading her Miranda rights and the false platitudes of the countless foster parents who gave her away ringing in her ears.
Normally when her demons came to bite her in the ass, Emma would throw herself into work but she found no solace in researching on her own case.
Her Royal Highness Princess Emma of Misthaven was exhausted. And bored. And frustrated. And mostly bored.
She’d spent her life watching her parents save the kingdom, inspire others and, just generally, become the basis for every love story she’d ever believed. But, now, on her own trip to Arendelle, Emma hadn’t done much of anything.
So, she’d left. She was going to see the city and do what she wanted. At least for a day. She just didn’t expect to run into an obstacle as soon as she left the castle – literally.
Rating: Teen Word Count: 12K total, but the first chapter’s about five and change and the rest is on Ao3 because words are fun. AN: This is a @csficformal gift for @fyeahcaptn Hey, hi Shauna! I was not your original gift’er, but some real life things happened and now here are a questionable number of Lieutenant Duckling words. Of which I’ve never written, so please don’t judge too harshly. I did a bit of stalking of your messages with your original Fic Formal’er and tried to include as much as I could. There’s banter, there’s fluff, there’s interfering Ruby and bed sharing and making out. Because I’ve never written Lieutenant Duckling, but I am who I am and kissing is my favorite thing. Also on Ao3 where there is a second chapter as well.
She didn’t see him at first.
That would, eventually, seem like some sort of sign, as if she weren’t entirely ready for him, but in the moment it only served to frustrate Emma and she refused to accept responsibility for the sound that came out of her mouth.
It felt a bit like a snarl, like it scratched its way out of her throat and the man in front of her looked a little stunned.
“In a bit of a rush, aren’t you, love?” he asked, a hint of a laugh clinging to the question and Emma’s eyes narrowed.
They were still standing in the doorway, her entire body buzzing with something that felt like a mix of adrenaline and anger and a bit of pain because the man in front of her was incredibly solid when she ran into him.
