Summary: When word of Robert Siegel’s departure from NPR’s “All Things Considered” goes public, Emma gets the chance to compete for her dream job. All that stands in her way are nine fellow journalists – one of them being the charismatic yet cocky Killian Jones. When she ends up paired with Killian on the first story, things get more complicated as she tries to balance fighting for her long-time aspiration and her budding relationship with this fascinating fellow reporter.
I had the best time creating this cover art for Jordy. (You can click on the picture to see in full size) She created an amazing story that you should all read now. If you like the frenemies/co-workers/friendship-turn-into-love thing, then this is perfect for you. Read it and let Jordy know how much you love it. I had a lot of fun creating the whole set and creating all the logos was definitely a learning experience and I’m really proud of the final product.
Also, check out the amazing gifsetcreated by @sailingcaptainswanMegan did such a beautiful set capturing key moments of this story, go show her some love.
Thank you @the-girl-in-the-band-tshirt for your amazing reactions to the art, without your fic there would not have been any inspiration at all. And thank you @captainswanbigbang for creating the CSLB project for authors and artists.
Lastly, Megan and Jordy! It was truly a joy to work with you both.
There is not much to do but burn. The core of you swirls and twists in knots of heat and light, your whole being filled with and surrounded by the fire of your existence. Burning, burning, always burning but only ever lighting up a tiny corner of an endless sky.
Such is the life of Killian Jones– though he isn’t called that anymore. He has been here for hundreds of years now, blinked quietly into existence one night and become a part of a thousand different skies, given names and stories under each one.
He had been a man once. But it has been too long since he has been skin and bones, muscle and sinew. His thoughts and memories have spread across the breadth of his sparking, spitting, smouldering existence. He can only remember things in flashes of forgotten feeling, every sensation dulled over the eons that he has spent in this breathless emptiness.
He spends his neverending nights wandering through strange skies, watching over lives and loves and stories he can never live, cursed to spend eternity alone.
But everything changes one night when he leans a little too close to watch a woman look up at him, her back against a brick wall, her feet gripping at the wood beneath her. He sees her mumble a wish, a desperate ask for something but he can’t make out what it is, his eyes too caught in the rush of electricity that seems to come out from around her, stretching up and out to him. Higher and higher, her words caught in the crackling heat, coming up and around him, surrounding him until it is all he can hear.
The final illustration for the final chapter. You can find my other illustrations here : The Tavern – After dawn
This final illustration for The Long Way Home is gorgeous. @giraffes-ride-swordfishes has captured Emma and Killian’s happy ending perfectly, and the sky behind them is breathtaking!
So this is my first time really participating in any fandom project, and based on this experience it’s definitely something I would love to do again! I served as one of the artists alongside
Salem @artistic-writer for xemmaloveskillianx who wrote the very fun story You Need Only Ask, inspiring the saucy illustration below the cut. It’s been so long since I’ve done any real illustration work, which was a fun and challenging experience, though after reading the story I knew exactly what scene I wanted to depict. I love when Emma and Killian are challenging each other, and I couldn’t help but imagine the two of them playfully staring each other down, their world focusing in on just the two of them while their friends look on in amused fascination having already lost so completely in their poker playing.
I’ve definitely been inspired to keep playing with my own artwork, and hopefully participating in more fandom projects to get to know more of my shipmates! 🙂
