Notes: Once again, gotta thank @welllpthisishappening for listening, reading and encouraging my sorry ass to write this and others for my Little Pirates verse (By the Hook, Breakfast for Boys and Pirate Halloween). Without her encouragement and commentary, I am nothing. We were both a little mad with how the show brought up the Hook v Rumple rivalry and just did nothing with it, and even worse, put them at the same dinner table for a family meal and act like nothing is wrong. So, yeah, this is my way of dealing with that while also murdering people with Dad!Killian feels because that’s my jam. This will most definitely by jossed by the canon, but as they say on Mythbusters, “I reject your reality and substitute my own.” Not the friendliest take on Rumple. You can read it here on AO3: [LINK]
Summary: Killian Jones and the Dark One have an understanding when it comes to cohabiting Storybrooke post-The Final Battle: do not enter each other’s space, do not speak, do not look and certainly do not touch. Things waver when kids enter the mix and things need to be clarified, especially when Killian’s daughter Beth has a disturbing nightmare.
Rating: T
Word Count: 7,600+ (I should have broken this into two parts, but I couldn’t bring my self to do it.)
There was a small fragile alliance between Killian Jones and the Dark One. No, alliance wasn’t the correct term. It assumed far too much civility than either men were willing to put into this…truce? No. Not truce. That was also too strong of a word. It was more of an…understanding between predators. They would ceasefire in the name of family, but they would remain on their own separate turfs. Killian would stick to one side of the room. Rumpelstiltskin would stay on the other. No words would be spoken. No looks would be shared. Only Belle and Henry could across between their territories and both were intelligent enough to not mention one in front of the other. It worked…for the most part at least.
And then, Killian and Emma brought three little ones into the world. His firstborn and spitting image Harrison Liam Jones came into the world almost exactly nine months after the Final Battle. (Neither are quite sure if their son was conceived in wedlock or out of it but Killian personally hoped it happened sometime during the honeymoon week they had locked themselves away in there home, completely enamored with each other and finally at peace.) They brought him to Granny’s nearly a week after he was born, ready to introduce the little lad to the world, and that was when everything in the past few months started to falter in this understanding between them.
Belle had immediately come over to their table to see the child, cooing and smiling over the babe while the Dark One lingered at the door, respecting the boundaries that had been unspoken but well established. Belle had brushed her hand against Harrison’s downy head and commented on his striking resemblance to his father. It was in that moment that Killian had peered up from his son to see the Dark One staring at the babe rather intensely with cold and glittering eyes. He made no movement nor did he offer any comment; he just stared at Killian’s son with an expression that could only be read as unnerving. Killian felt every hair on his body stand at attention and held the boy more fiercely to his chest, eliciting a cry of protest from his son. For the entire time the Golds were in the diner, Killian’s entire body was poised and ready for action – to defend his son from any possible attack. None came. The Dark One did not break the rules of their understanding, but something had wavered.

How about Emma tries to explain birth control, but he misunderstands and thinks Emma is infertile, and he tries to come to terms with the fact that there will be no Swan-Jones children.
I’m trying to write at least like, 500 words a day. Building a streak, building good habits. And since normally my prompts wind up between 1000-2000 words… hopefully I get some stuff done.
Also, this just went to an angsty place. I tweaked it a tiny bit.
His throat no longer burned (a sure sign he was well and stinking drunk) but, heedless of the state of his sobriety, more of the numbing liquid spilled over the lip of his flask and down his gullet.
It was a still night: no crickets stirred, not a breeze ruffled their garden, their street devoid of cars or dogs.
Theirs, his and hers and Henry’s, no more and never less.
He took another swig of rum.
Do you have any fic recommendations that haven’t received the recognition you think they should? Or, alternatively, any recommendations for stories you’ve read more than once? I’m currently caught up on my personal to read list and looking for new stories, especially with the news that shall not be mentioned. AU is preferable!

everything in between…
After the final battle, Killian and Emma finally find their way home. (I like imagining the conversations we never see, and the sexy times that follow)
rated M, 1200 words
The walk up to their door seems endless, both of them clinging to the last tendrils of adrenaline keeping them upright after a hellishly long day. Killian’s lost track of the hour, but his body feels every minute spent, muscles still burning from his climb and fall from the beanstalk, head aching from clenching his teeth as Emma performed her Savior’s sacrifice before his eyes. Her fingers give his a gentle squeeze causing her wedding ring to press against his and like a rope snapping loose in the wind, he becomes completely untethered. Eyes burning with overflowing emotion, he stops, turns and gathers her close, tucking his face into her hair as hot tears splash down over his cheeks.
“Hey, what’s wrong?”
Shaking his head, he just pulls her in tighter, not sure of how to express the weight of everything crashing down over him, just knowing he needs to hold her and allow himself a moment to find his bearings. Her woolen cap is slightly rough against his temple, but it’s so achingly Emma that he finds himself leaning further into it, the threads drying the tracks of his tears. Keeping his hook anchored against her back, he loosens his grip on her jacket so he can cup her cheek with his hand, forcing a shaky smile upon his lips as he finds her worried eyes with his own.
“Sorry, Swan, it’s been an exceedingly trying day.”
songbird + model/photographer au?
“time of the season” by the zombies, which is on the austin powers soundtrack, soooooo
“Come on baby, show me love. Work for me, baby, yeah, yeah!”
His subject finally cracked a smile. It felt like triumph, seeing the way her eyes crinkled in delight. How her skin seemed to glow, her hair catching the light better. It made him feel some sort of way, like he needed to catch his breath though he was barely moving, so caught was he by the simplicity of the laugh of a beautiful woman. A laugh he had caused.
She was definitely the hardest nut he’d ever had to crack: not a model by choice, she’d become quite high profile after saving a small town up in Maine from a con artist on the verge of bilking the town’s entire historical preservation fund in a very memorable way: kicking his ass in very tall stilettos right in the middle of the local greasy spoon. Video footage of the ass kicking had gone viral, and within a month, Emma Swan, Bail Bondsperson, had been unable to remain incognito for work. She had become too famous.
Epic Fics that Rose is in Love With: Beyond the Horizon by @alexandralyman
When Princess Emma’s ship is captured by the Jolly Roger and Captain Killian Jones, she offers herself as a hostage for ransom if he will let the ship and the other passengers go. With Emma, Killian remembers the honour he once held dear, and Emma catches glimpses of the gentleman Killian had been. Against all odds, the pirate and the princess begin to fall for each other.
songbird + accidentally pregnant
“somewhere” by edward sharpe & the magnetic zeros. this song is amazing tbh, you should listen to it
“Hey,” he said gently. He still didn’t know how to operate in her orbit; it wasn’t exactly intuitive, knowing how to act around the woman you accidentally left in “a delicate condition,” as they used to say.
Plus, Emma Swan didn’t exactly make it easy. He’d been rather shocked to find her banging on his door three months after their encounter. The corner of his mouth quirked up as he remembered it.
“Do you remember when you told me you were pregnant?”
“Ugh,” Emma said, rubbing a low spot on her very large, very lovely abdomen. He wanted to reach out and rub it for her, but she was very skittish about his touch these days. “You should have stopped me from the spicy garlic pickle chips with that third grilled cheese.”
“Me and what army, Swan?” he chuckled. He handed her his glass, the ice cubes tinkling invitingly as he passed it over. She took it, murmuring her thanks, but the way her eyes sparkled over the rim as she sipped at the water were more than her often sparse sentiments could convey.
There was a moment of silence–this one comfortable, unlike so many of their other moments over the past five months–and when Killian broke it, his words seemed nearly out of place.
“You got me into this fucking mess, and you’re going to see it through.”
from under the ground → by @caprelloidea
“You’re not alone, Swan,” Killian tells her, across time and space. He’s
being ridiculous, he knows. She’s dead, and he is nothing but a scribe
with a sordid past. He’s alone in the wreckage of plane from the
twenty-first century, nursing a bottle of weak and fizzy rum, watching
the bioluminescent plants flare to life under the burgeoning starlight,
while the lady Swan haunts him from within a dusty old player. Before
her breath can even out, and she can say what else is on her mind,
Killian pauses the recording, and allows silence to settle. Were she
before him, he could duck his chin and soften his expression, entreat
her to reveal herself, or at least convince her she’s not alone, as he says…

Killian had been one hundred percent correct. Emma couldn’t move.
“Stay here and get some sleep,” he murmured, their skin damp with sweat but both of them as yet unwilling to let go of each other. “I’ll go into the station.”
Emma made a weak noise of protest. “You didn’t get much sleep either,” she said, her eyes refusing to open.
“I got a few hours, whereas you got none at all.” His lips pressed against her temple, his beard scratchy against her cheek. “You worked for twenty hours straight yesterday. Take the day, love. Do something for yourself and let me handle work.”
She blinked heavily, squinting at him. “Are you sure?”
“I insist on it.”
“I may just lie here in a sex coma for the rest of the day, then,” she said, stretching languidly against the smooth sheets.
He chuckled, kissing her again quickly before getting out of bed. The last thing she heard was the sound of Killian opening his dresser drawers before she sank into a deep and dreamless sleep.
a time for peace
Hi so I just had a lot of feelings about how emotionally tired our babies must be after all this nonsense, and thought some angst and hugging after The Final Battle was in order.
Dazed and buzzing with fresh relief, it feels wrong for the
lot of them to simply part ways for the night. At some point, it’s agreed on that there’s no need to
wake Granny this late at night when the loft has a perfectly good stove, and so
that’s where they all go. Killian holds Emma tightly as they walk, feeling her
exhaustion in the heaviness of her steps—so at odds the radiant peace on
her face.He wishes he were in such good shape. He feels like he’s holding
hysteria only just at bay.
