I loved her. He didn’t want to reach the conclusion, but it was the only one. It was right there in bloody
front of me, and I missed it. Not in its fullest sense, given
how brief and complicated their acquaintance had been, not enough time to grow
and blossom, but nothing else possibly fit. It wasn’t liking her; he had liked people
before. He knew what that felt like. It wasn’t admiring her, because he likewise had
admired people before. Even if it turned out to be a lie. It wasn’t even lusting after her, because if lust was
all it was, he would have taken what she offered the first time she offered it,
and not even cared if she went on her way after. As difficult and as painful
and as irrational as it seemed, the only word that described its complexities
and its depths and its contradictions, its utter, world-changing grip on him,
was that. Love. And I lost her.

“Oh fuck,”
The words just escape Emma suddenly.
She’s sitting on her desk, formerly
working on some paperwork, when it just hits her.

Emma’s completely lost to her
thoughts, effectively ignoring the way David looks over at her from his desk.
He’s confused and frowning at her. “You okay there, Emma?”
His voice startles her.
Not even what he says, just the
sound of it.
She looks up in a rush, but she’s
really not looking at David. She still can’t quite wrap her head around
her own thoughts and paying David any mind isn’t a priority right this minute.
“I’m so stupid,”
“Excuse me?”
“I’m pregnant,” she blurts out then
—but she’s not talking to David per se, not really —she’s more like
thinking aloud. She came to the realization out of nowhere and now there is no
stopping her stupid brain —and mouth. “I am sooo pregnant, that’s
why I’ve been so fucking sick. I thought —I don’t know why I didn’t think about
it before, Gosh, I…I’m stupid, stupid me,” she is rambling to herself, she
can’t stop, her mind is going a hundred miles per hour and she just doesn’t
know how to stop herself.
Certainly, Emma doesn’t notice when
David rises to his feet and moves to stand in front of her desk.
It isn’t until David taps his
fingers on the desk between them, that she seems to snap out of it. “Oh,”

They sit on the back
porch, cool bottles held in their hands, glass coated in moisture from the heat
of the evening air. The muted sounds of the girls in the kitchen – talking,
laughing – drift out to the yard around them. Killian takes a long
pull from his drink, an easy silence nestled comfortably between his chair and
David’s. The end of summer draws to a close, the fireflies not quite as
numerous as they had been, songs of crickets quieter, a slight chill in the air
with each gentle puff it breathes across the world.
“Henry seems pretty
excited to start high school next week,” David says, his gaze somewhere out in
the distance.
Killian takes another
sip. “Aye. The lad’s been dragging both of us on supply runs.
Why he needs so much glue is beyond me.”
David laughs, raising
his bottle to his lips. “He’ll get over it soon enough. I think.
Not like any of us have experience with high school, besides for Emma.”
A heaviness rests in
Killian’s belly as he nods slowly, a weight that seems to settle on David as
well. “It’s good she knows her way around this world,” Killian says
gently. “You gave her that.”
The other man is
quiet, but Killian knows he shouldn’t be. He came back, despite all he’d
missed. He came back, and he is doing his best to be here for her now.
In her top five of things she doesn’t believe in, Emma Swan finds herself, true love, and magicbattling for first place. When she stumbles into another world where magic is the rule and meets Captain Hook, a man driven by revenge, she will have to reconsider her classement. Slightly inspired by Outlander.

Her headache is the first thing she notices in the blurriness of her mind. Frowning, she brings her hand to her forehead, eyelids still shut.
What the fuck did I drink last night?
“Miss Swan,” calls her a voice, and it seems awfully far away. “Miss Swan,” repeats the voice, “come back to us.”
This weight on her chest, this iron fist strangling her…
Hastily, she opens her eyes and swallows down with difficulty. Her throat is awfully dry.
“Where am I?” Her voice is hoarse, rasp.
She doesn’t understand this desire comin from within, from her depths, this desire to stop a foreign pain.
“You’re at the hospital, ma’am,” informs a nurse, the voice from before, “A bad fall.” Emma hesitates, and finally the nurse releases unvarnished words, “You’ve been unconscious for a whole month, ma’am.”
I wrote this ages ago during 2015′s AU Week, but now that the fic is finally finished I edited/expanded on it and put it out there for everyone else! Thanks to @idoltina for beta’ing and yelling at me for giving her feels.

She tilts her head up for another kiss, which he happily obliges. Leo makes retching noises behind them and she rolls her eyes, giving her nephew a noogie as she goes to sit. “Grownups kiss too much,” Leo states. Ruth nods in agreement.
Killian sits across from him, grabbing a roll from the basket. “Aye, lad, but sooner or later you’ll see it’s not so bad, this kissing business.”
Both kids make faces. “Ew!”
Killian catches Emma’s eye over the salad bowl and winks.
