“Oh wait. What about Henry?”
He moves a little closer into her space, the tip of his nose nudging enticingly against hers as his breath puffs out gentle and warm over her lips. “He’s with Regina.”
“My parents-”
“Have ‘got this,’ as your mother so aptly put it.”
His hand finds purchase on her hip, the tips of his fingers sneaking beneath the hem of her sweater and searing her skin. He smiles when her body trembles at the contact and she is helpless to smile back, her arms winding around his neck with a sigh.
“But Hyde-”
“Will still be a thorn in both our sides in a few hours.” He angles his head, nosing along her cheek until his lips find the corner of her mouth.
“Do you have an answer for everything?” she wonders, but her fingers are already tangling in his hair.
“Mmhmm,” he nods, nipping playfully at her jaw. “I love you, Swan, and I just want to be with you.”
She expels a heavy breath, her heart squeezing in her chest, not just at his words, but at the way his voice softens when he says them. Her resolve is crumbling to dust right around their feet.
And then he swears, under his breath and full of frustration, and it makes her pull away to look at him. When she finds his gaze trained upwards, instinctively she turns to see what he’s glaring at.
“I don’t suppose you have an answer for that, do you?”
This time he’s the one to sigh. “Unfortunately, no.”
She watches the giant blimp drift overhead, gaining speed as it descends straight for the woods, then faces him once more to give him an apologetic look. She reaches up, rubs the back of her fingers affectionately over the scruff on his jaw.
“Raincheck?”
“I have no idea what that means, but aye.”
Emma grins at him then moves back into him, pushing up onto her toes and kissing him hard on the mouth, hoping he’s perceptive enough to know that it means that when this other stupid problem gets dealt with, she’s going to show him just how much she loves him too. Very, very thoroughly.
