hey, wanna read my new book the fever for free? and maybe help get me published in the process? i’m calling in every favor here. please help me out! if my fic or crappy sense of humor has ever entertained you…do this for me?
i wrote a novel with my writing/life partner jess (@jandco on twitter, go say hi, it’ll confuse her), and it was summarily rejected over 20 times; the few who bothered to respond all told us that the manuscript was great and don’t change a thing, it’s just that it won’t sell. we’re not #on trend, apparently.
hey, let’s prove them wrong!
it won’t cost you anything except whatever time it takes you to read an 83k word book. this particular website where you can read the fever occasionally offers publishing deals to the manuscripts posted there, if a lot of people read the entire thing (their site tracks that!) and leave good ratings/comments. you guys do this for me with my fanfiction all the time, so….????? would you be willing to go an extra step?
how to help me (no money required!):
go here to register on swoon reads (it’s a great site, there are tons of unpublished books on there that you can read for free!). get your email verification, then go read (they even have an app so you can read right on your phone):
the fever by kris & jessie leavitt (i’m kris, obviously)
Jack Decker was exactly what Bex had been warned about by her mother. This was how a girl ended up in the fiery pits of the corners of hell reserved for perverts and carnal heathens, so she’d been told. It suddenly didn’t seem like such a bad place to be, if it was Jack Decker who led her there.
Gossip. Dirty dancing. Prejudice. Milkshakes spiked with whiskey.
It’s 1961 and no one knows it just yet, but a family from California is about to throw the entire town of Settler’s Mill into upheaval. The fierce and spirited Bex Wakefield will face the biggest fight of her life when the town turns on Jack Decker, an up-and-coming boxer. As for Jack, he’ll never see the knockout coming when Bex steps into his life.
What’s a girl to do when people would rather believe the lurid tales flying around town than the truth?
then leave an honest review when you’re done, please! apparently you can comment as you go, so if you wanna live comment, i mean. i won’t hate it. in fact, i freaking love that. also feel free to message me as you read, some people have been doing that the last couple of days and it’s been one of the best experiences of my life.
please, spread this to anyone you know who likes charming books with fun characters. or anyone who likes graphic descriptions of boxers all bloodied up and bulging. or anyone who likes girls in skirts threatening to shank men who do horrible things. or just if you like reading about two idiots falling in love.
and then come tell me what you thought of my book! i hope you guys love jack & bex, and also lulu and georgie. and vivi. and and and yeah, just go read, i’m begging of you.
the book does contain some sensitive topics, so if you’re worried about that, message me and i will gladly tell you what to expect. if you choose not to read, i won’t be offended. but maybe consider helping me spread the word?
